Though Neptune have put out a lot of material over 12 years, the release of Gong Lake on experimental artists’ haven Table of the Elements may net the band their widest exposure yet. Describing their records without mentioning the methods behind them, and the ensuing live spectacle, is hard to resist: On stage, they man heavy, foreboding instruments self-made from antiquated machines and scrap metal, forged at extreme angles like props from a German expressionist film. The band could never be reduced to simply performance art, though, and Gong Lake is just as rich in rhythm and atmosphere as any of their previous albums. Still, they remain primarily a live beast. Their sound is literally industrial, and it’s way more fun to watch a factory bang shit out than just to hear it. Neptune still struggle with that, and even at their most song-oriented and cohesive, a Neptune record may always be an advertisement for their dramatic, otherworldly live shows. Sic Alps is essentially two dudes, Mike Donovan who used to be in the Ropers way back when and Matt Hartman from Henry’s Dress and more recently of Coachwhips fame. With the assistance of a revolving cast of assorted characters (the early line-up was Hartman-less), Sic Alps have been creating the best noise pop/weird psych/lo-fi rock n roll (I promised myself I wouldn’t do that…ugh) for about half a decade now, with, now out of print, records on Woodsist, Skulltones, and Animal Disguise. From amazing Psychocandy rippers to timeless-sounding basement psych and scuzz pop, this is all over the place but always on point. Like the best of ’80s British DIY, early-‘90s American indie, and kids tripping in 1970 rolled into some of my favorite music on the 21st century. If you’re looking for another, or maybe even better, Times New Viking or No Age, it’s arrived. from Other Music site

The claims are rised rightly – we present one of them, BEAT BEAT BEAT is rough classic punk group sharing members with the CARBONAS and FRANTIC. They got the key to meld 77 punk hooks with the energy and forward drive of early 80’s hardcore, complete with attention-to-detail, power pop songwriting skills. They have that certain down under murder punk feeling. Think SAINTS meet SUICIDE COMMANDOS.

For true blue fans of everything Buddy Holly to the Cramps, this is modern rockabilly at it's finest. The vintage aspect of music is respected from the beginning to the end: from the lyrics about pretty little fillies, makin' music and dancing to the way the guys recorded the album. Opener Walk My Walk is a winner up-tempo piece and instrumentals like Easy Tiger show off the trio's musical strengths. Sure we've heard this before, but rarely done this well.
